CILA promoting innovation in Rio de Janeiro

During the month of November, representatives of the CILA consortium traveled to Rio de Janeiro in order to promote the innovation agenda in that city. Through meetings with members of the Rio de Janeiro City Hall and civil society organizations, CILA was able to present the CILA community and promote articulations in order to generate more open, democratic and inclusive cities in the South.
During the first day of meetings, the team met with civil society organizations to strengthen the region’s agendas in the public sector, climate change, and racial and gender equity, through data methodologies and citizen innovation. The objective of the meeting was to continue promoting the exchange of experiences and best practices and to foster possible partnerships with various organizations to promote open, democratic and inclusive cities. The participating organizations were Casa Fluminense, Mulheres Negras Decidem y Data Labe.
On a second day, the team visited the Centro de Operações do Rio (COR) to talk with the team from the Rio de Janeiro City Hall’s Office of Data, Smart Cities and Innovation. There, they were able to see how the team monitors and works to develop sustainable and efficient mobility throughout the city.
But that was not all. In addition to these visits, CILA participated in the annual conference of the International Observatory of Participatory Democracy (IOPD). There, CILA presented the CILA Community to a community of public officials from global local governments, civil society organizations and academia. According to official data, more than 800 people from civil society organizations, governments and academia participated, representing 46 countries.
